Chris Milton Defended Florida’s 2020 Elections And Said More Experienced Election Supervisors Felt Florida’s Election Reform Bills SB 90 And HB 7041 Were Unnecessary. “Election reform bills (SB 90 and HB 7041) working their way through committees in the state legislature this month have state elections supervisors concerned the proposed changes are not needed after a successful and smooth 2020 general election. Baker County Supervisor of Elections Chris Milton, now serving his first four-year term following the election last year, said there is unanimous consensus among veteran state elections supervisors in both major parties that no ‘sweeping changes’ are needed, and therefore, he’s betting the proposed reforms will ultimately not pass in their current form. ‘The [elections supervisors] who’ve been around a long time, they’re putting their opinions and input in front of lawmakers and I think it will be effective,’ he said, adding that, ‘Florida set a precedent in the election last year” in terms of the efficiency and security of the results.’” [The Baker County Press, 4/8/21]
Chris Milton Praised ERIC And Said It Contained Valuable Data To Ensure Accurate Voter Rolls. “‘ERIC is a non-profit organization with the sole mission of assisting states to improve the accuracy of America’s voter rolls and increase access to voter registration for all eligible citizens,’ reads the organization’s website. ‘ERIC is governed and managed by states who choose to join, and was formed in 2012 with assistance from The Pew Charitable Trusts.’ The organization began as a collaboration between seven states: Colorado, Delaware, Maryland, Nevada, Utah, Virginia and Washington. It now has 33 members including Florida. ‘We’re working through some valuable data received via ERIC right now to ensure the most accurate voter rolls,’ said Mr. Milton early last week on January 11. He said the national data is very helpful. ‘We’re mostly finding information on voters who’ve moved out of state. So, it’s showing items that Florida-specific records are not necessarily catching. It’s also been a great supplement source to help confirm changes. When you have several sources confirming the same information change, that’s valuable. Right now, we’re in the process of carefully reviewing over 800 potential record changes/updates released from ERIC on December 27, 2021. That doesn’t count the other daily notifications from the state,’ said Mr. Milton.” [The Baker County Press, 01/19/22]
