2012: ABERNETHY SAID “DEMOCRATS ARE TRYING TO STEAL ELECTIONS”

After Statesville City Councilman Was Indicted On Charges Related To Voter Fraud, Jason Abernethy Called For His Resignation. “As Statesville City Councilman Flake Huggins faces indictments against him, his colleagues on the council remain supportive. Huggins was indicted by a grand jury on Monday charges stemming from a voter fraud investigation [...] That is not the sentiment of the Iredell County Republican Party, however. In a written statement by the county’s party chairman, Jason Abernathy said Huggins ‘should immediately resign.’ Despite the Statesville elections being nonpartisan, Abernathy placed illegal voting in a partisan context. ‘Even here in a strong Republican County like Iredell,’ he said in his statement, ‘the Democrats are trying to steal elections from voters and these indictments are just another example.’” [Hickory Record, 3/6/12]
