Overview
Nevada uses the title Election Board Officers broadly to mean anyone who is employed by a county to assist in election administration and processing. Nev. Rev. Stat. § 293.050. In some instances, they will serve as members of a board that is created by the County Clerk to perform a specific function. “Election Procedures Manual” at 9. The County Clerk is required ****to appoint registered voters from the county to fill the following boards:
- Polling Place Board [1] (staffs polling sites)
- Mail Ballot Central Counting Board (helps process and tally mail ballots)
- Signature Audit Election Board (assists in performing daily audits of electronic signature review devices)
- Accuracy and Certification Board (assists in the audit of machines used in the election and tallying process)
- Computer Program and Processing Accuracy Board (verifies that the software used counts ballots properly)

If the County Clerk needs further help there are four additional boards that they may appoint:
- Central Ballot Inspection Board (receives and processes ballots and checks for damage or other marks)
- Ballot Duplicating Board (assists in the creation of duplicate ballots when originals are unable to be read by tallying machines or manual tabulation)
- Mail Ballot Inspection Board (performs the functions of the Central Ballot Inspection Board and Ballot Duplicating Board for mail ballots)
- Ballot Processing and Packaging Board (assists in the organization of ballots for tabulating and recording)
- Vote Adjudication Board (reviews voter intent on ballots where it is unclear)
Additionally, the County Clerk has the power to appoint any other additional boards that they may need. “Election Procedures Manual” at 23-25.
Election-Related Duties
The key duties of Election Board Officers at polling locations are:
- Executing the procedures of the closing of polling sites. Nev. Rev. Stat. § 293.3604.
- Registering voters and assisting in the casting and storage of ballots. Nev. Rev. Stat. § 293.273(3).
